We walked along a valley path for several hours, enjoying the streams, waterfalls, houses with flower boxes
everywhere, cows, and cliff divers.  After lunch we took the funicular (cog train) high up the mountain side to Grutschalp.
Amazing....Wengen, across the valley, fell further and further below us. Then we walked many miles down a beautiful,
almost level trail, past Mürren, back to Gimmelwald.  We were high on the mountainside, looking down on villages and
looking up at the Alps high peaks.
There are no words for our joy.
This walk has
breath-taking beauty.
I want to go back
again and again.
This trip was a celebration of 43 years of marriage, our retirement, (Joyce from nursing, Jep from
medical school professor) and Joyce's recovery and well being after cancer surgery three months
before our trip.  Our return to Switzerland, where we can both trace our ancestry, was the balm that
brought joy to our beings!

The walks - Lauterbrunnen Valley
Lauterbrunnen Valley
The weather was
perfect...around 74 F as we
strolled the several miles.
Cliff diver
We were delighted to see
cliff divers (folks jumping off
cliffs) free fall until opening
their parachutes and gliding
safely to earth.
Swiss Alps - 2  Day 5 - June 1

One great thing about Rick
Steves' tours is that there are
options for physical activity.
This was a "free day", so we
could rest or be as active as
we wanted to be. Most of our
group chose to go with
Colleen on an Alpine hike.
The valley walk was about 5
miles, so it was not for
everyone. It was, of course, a
bucolic and serene stroll, with
friends, in the sunshine, in
Switzerland! Yes!

Lauterbrunnen valley, above
and left, is a beautiful place to
stroll, to stop, to look, to
breathe, and to celebrate life
itself.
